About OUR Khung BangKachao Background

Khung BangKachao is a large green oasis on the periphery of Bangkok and one of the country’s most important oxygen producers. The area also has environmental, economic, tourism, social, and cultural significances. Unfortunately, Khung BangKachao is faced with threats of urbanization and environmental degradation. To protect it from further damage and to revive its biodiversity, the OUR Khung BangKachao project was conceived as a social collaboration among 34 leading organizations in Thailand (as of September 2018) with an emphasis on community involvement. The project endeavors to improve the Khung BangKachao quality of life and its economic growth based on the wisdom of His Late Majesty King Rama 9 and his Sufficiency Economy Philosophy.


Goal

  • To foster growth in the Khung BangKachao community while sustainably maintaining environmental friendliness, focusing on three aspects, namely the environment, the economy, and the culture and society.
  • To elevate the quality of life and the environment in Khung Bang Kachao, developing the area into a green community development model for Thailand.

Objectives

  • To preserve the biodiversity of Khung BangKachao in fulfillment of His Late Majesty King Rama 9’s wishes, operating in conformity with the directives from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and the Chaipattana Foundation.
  • To drive the development of Khung BangKachao forward as a collaboration among the public sector, the private sectors, and the locals, taking their way of life into consideration, as well as to ensure that Khung BangKachao sustainably remains Thailand’s oasis.
